Bealach Na Ba

A Tour of the NC500 from West to East including Skye

Ismay & David chose Camperceilidh Campers as their Campervan hire to tour the North Coast 500. This was their staycation of 2020, escaping from London to Aberdeen to embark on their Scottish Outdoor Adventure with Camperceilidh Campers.

Their Route:

Starting from Aberdeen after a detailed handover of the VW Campervan and all its facilities, they drove to Inverness for their first overnight stay at Beauly Holiday Park. Next morning, now accustomed to the workings of the Campervan, they headed off to Rogie Falls, Strathpeffer Castle and Achness Falls, taking in all these spectacular views and walks, before spending their next night at Dornoch Campsite in Sutherland, on the Dornoch Firth.

This left them well placed for an early start to visit to Dunrobin Castle & Gardens, where they took part in some Falconry. Their route north through Caithness took them to The Fairy Glen and Latheron Wheel, Cairn O’ Get – with its stunning heather fields – and onwards to John O Groat’s, finally stopping overnight in Thurso.

Making full use of the self contained Capercaillie Campervan in Ross and Cromarty, they decided to wild camp near a beach in the vicinity of the infamous Bealach na Ba. An early start meant they had this awesome road to themselves, and could savour the route and the views – “it was so quiet – there was hardly anyone there!”

Keen to make the most of their week, the Isle of Skye was within their sights, and with the freedom to amend and adapt the plan, they drove on to Skye. There they visited Kilt Rock, saw Highland Coo’s and “lots of Waterfalls”, found Dinosaur Prints at Staffin Beach, completing a quick circuit of the Isle before driving back across the Skye Bridge for the night at Kyle.

The route back took them via Loch Ness – which could not be missed – and then onwards to the Cairngorms to have a chill-out night in the National Park, under the stars before returning thei Campervan to Aberdeen.

Their Experience:

“An Amazing Adventure”.
“Our only regret is that we wish we had longer…”.
